Holiday Pep Talk for Mamas with Postpartum Depression
Are you feeling low?
You want to aim higher, but you just can’t seem to get unstuck from postpartum depression’s nasty claws. So many of us have been there.
If you’re already feeling low, the holidays can weigh you down more. There can be a lot of pressure to grin and bear the holidays. You might be left wondering if you’ll ever feel happy again.
Yes love, there may be a lot of discomfort now, but there are better days ahead. And, you don’t have to have it all figured out now. Trust that in the coming months, you will become more aligned with your best you – the you who survives postpartum depression! But, for now, and through the holidays, cut yourself some major slack and slow it way down, mama.
Because I think you can use some good vibes to get through the holidays, I want to give you a pep talk with a heaping dose of mama love. Imagine these words filling your spirit and resting comfortably in every nook and cranny!
Breathe through this, one breath at a time!
Okay, dear mama. Over the coming weeks, be sure to give yourself plenty of breathing room and avoid overcrowding your calendar. And, please, please be sure to carve out some “me” time. Most importantly, remember to pause and take a deep breath, especially through those brutally tough moments and days.
Regardless of how difficult things are, believe that you are doing the best you can. And, you must never, ever forget that you are a good mom! Be wary of those voices in your head that try to convince you otherwise – they are just voices and not grounded in truth. Also, give yourself permission to make choices that will nurture your spirit and fill up your mama cup. Resist the urge to compare your life and living room to the sparkly holiday decked out ones on Pinterest. And, there’s no need to compare yourself to the “other mom” you see on Facebook who appears blissfully happy 24/7 either. Never-ending happiness and a constantly clean home aren’t real by the way! And finally, if you find yourself feeling low this holiday season, and waging a battle against postpartum depression, know that you are not alone. And yes, you will get through this!
