Alright, I’ve got a couple things for you today: a story with a lesson about holding tight to dreams and an announcement.
A few years back, during one of many lengthy text convos between my twin sister, Erica, and I (if you didn’t know that I’m a twin, then SURPRISE! That’s us pictured above.), we threw out the idea of going into business together.
We talked about how cool and exciting it would be, exchanged ideas for possible business names, and laughed about all the cute photos of us as kids we could use for branding (we were quite darling!).
But, alas, both of us were sleep-deprived mamas and knee deep in chasing our little ones around at the time. Read: trying our best to keep our heads above water.
So, we agreed that it just wasn’t the right time to move forward.
Besides, we still weren’t sure what kind of business to start. Nor were we sure how to wrap our brains around the distance issue – Erica lives in Minnesota, and I’m in Georgia.
Now one thing to know about us up front, is our soul connection. Yes, we have that freaky “twin telepathy” going on, we shared our own secret language as toddlers, and we’re forever devoted to one another. We’re permanent womb mates and birthday buds!
How a $3 Coffee Changed Our Lives for the Better
Fast forward to 2016. Life was still incredibly busy…but different. Our kids had grown older and were now in school, and both of us had launched our own businesses.
By the end of the year, we decided that it was time to unleash our twin magic and finally manifest this business idea of ours.
Over the recent holidays, during a fireside chat at a coffee shop in Minnesota, we discovered that:
- We love nothing more than rooting on other women to live their best lives.
- Our sisterhood harmony is a gift that we’re called to share with others to inspire connection and belonging.
- Between my counseling and Erica’s Reiki and writer backgrounds, there is an abundance of light, healing, support, goodwill, and positive juju (not to mention laughter and good times!) to offer other women.
What The Heck Are We Doing?
And in that moment, our business was given life!
While sipping on coffee, we talked about our passion for serving women and what that looks like. We brainstormed ideas about how to hold sacred space for women to reflect, share their joys and pain, and dig deep while in community with other kindred sister spirits.
The next few months consisted of us nurturing our vision over several text convos and emails (our phone calls are only used for dire I-need-to-vent circumstances, in case you’re wondering!).
It was spring break when we held our first official planning phone call – both of us trying to pull a coherent string of thoughts together with wild kid activity in the background.
Our reality is that we’re busy on-the-go moms, caring for 7 kids between the two of us. The struggle is real – sometimes too real! We know how difficult it is to carve out space to keep our own cups full.
With our real lives playing out in the background during our planning call, we asked, “Why don’t we invite women to step away with us from their own busy lives? And while we’re surrounded in nature, we fill their cups with good juju, and offer them the holding space to love hard and dig deep!” *cue major Aha! moment!*
Two Thumbs Up and a Green Light
Drumroll please?…and, without further ado, we’re pleased to announce the birth of Soul Sister retreats!
Our first retreat is scheduled for October 2017.
Imagine yourself spending the day with us in a cozy cabin in the Georgia mountains. We’ll have the beautiful fall colors as our backdrop, and while breathing in crisp fall mountain air, we’ll do some good-to-the-soul heart-searching.
Also, picture yourself among a small group of kindred spirits enjoying a full day sprinkled with delightful goodies, meditation, reiki, hiking, reflection, laughter, and relaxation.
We’re planning to hold retreats in both Minnesota and Georgia, and the first one is set to take place in the lovely Blue Ridge Mountains.
Stay tuned over the coming months for the schedule registration details…
In the meantime, we’re rolling out a 4-part Soul Sister Spring blogpost series to give you some inner-spring-cleaning motivation. Think of it as springtime soul food!
So, today’s story has a feelgood ending, and with a promise for a satisfying sequel.
Erica and I are beyond thrilled to begin this journey together and we cannot wait to connect with you all, our Soul Sister Tribe! We’ll talk to you all again soon!
